Prepping your Skin for Summer

These last few weeks of hot weather have got me thinking about changing my skincare and more importantly my makeup for the warmer months. My first holiday is fast approaching and I've been thinking of switching to something a little lighter and Summer appropriate. I have such oily skin during the warmer months I struggle to find a light foundation that will battle the shine. I've been re trialing the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue which they describe as a tinted gel cream. It's a lovely consistency and a great colour match for me but I do notice that my skin gets a little shiny towards the end of the day. I'm trying to find a good setting powder to go with it at the moment so any recommendations that any of you have feel free to send them my way. It's definitely my go to for summer holidays though as it has a high SPF and gives very light coverage letting my natural (usually freckly) skin show through. I'm more of a natural makeup fan so this is perfect for me.

Whilst trialing the Complexion Rescue I've also been trying to work out if I can lighten up my forever favourite Revlon Colorstay. It is by far my number 1 drugstore foundation with a great shade selection and a fantastic formula for oily/ combination skin. I've decided applying this with a damp beauty blender is the best way to thin it out slightly. This might be a good idea to try for any exiting foundation you have if you'd prefer not to spend money on something new for Summer. I swear by my Real Techniques Beauty Blender and find it creates such a flawless finish with most foundations.

Skincare wise I tend to use a facial moisturiser that has a high SPF when I know I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the sun. I've been using a few recently, but my favourite  formula has to come from Tesco with their Aloe Face Cream. It's a bargain at £2 and has an SPF of 6. I'm also really impressed with the packaging too; a glass pot which is pretty good for the price. The scent is really refreshing too plus it hydrates without leaving your skin feeling too oily.

Have you got any summer makeup and skincare staples that you can't live without?
