Autumn is my favourite time of year makeup wise. Dark lips and heavy eye makeup is what I live for and I spend most of the summer months counting down the days until I can bust out the smokey eyes.
I have a few favourite autumn makeup combinations but this one is probably the one I wear most often. It's hard to photograph eyeshadow (anyone else find the same issue?) because it never seems to do the colours justice. These pictures definitely don't do the berry element to this look any favours but I can assure you it's there!
Base wise I don't tend to switch things up all that much. Once I find a good foundation I stick to it. At the moment I'm loving L'Oreal's 24 hour Matte foundation. It's such a good budget foundation if you're looking for something that keeps you matte for most of the day. I've used a mixture of the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer and the Maybelline Eye Eraser. To confuse things a little I use the Eye Eraser on my chin and cheeks (yup. I'm crazy) and the Lasting Perfection under my eyes. Don't ask me why, I just prefer using them that way around!
I'm using my Tarte Amazonian Clay powder at the moment (blast from the past) but that's only because I've run out of my MAC pressed powder. I've just purchased the Laura Mercier powder actually which I'm looking forward to trying.
Blusher wise I'm using my go to NYX Baked Blush in the shade Solstice. Bronzer is Laura Mercier again in the shade Bronze 2. I decided to go against highlighter but usually I stick with my MAC's Soft and Gentle. I just love the colour and intensity of it and I've found no other highlighter has quite matched up to it if I'm honest.
Now onto eyes; I have two main eye looks at the moment. One is way more berry/ orangey than this one but I thought I'd go with the toned down version for this post. I've used the Lorac Pro Pallette to create this look. I started off with the Urban Decay Eyeprimer Potion to prime my eyelids. Then I went in with the shade Taupe all over the lid followed by Garnet. I find the Taupe shade gives a great base for most smokey eyes and helps build up the dark colours. I went over the base shades with the colour Pewter. I then shaded the outer corner of my eyes with Espresso, blended the look together using my eyeshadow blending brush (Spectrum do some great ones HERE) and then put a strip of Gold down the middle. To highlight the inner corner I used the shade Nude and then finished off the look with some kohl eyeliner from Collection and my all time favourite mascara from Maybelline; Lash Sensational.
I've used a matte L'Oreal lipstick for this look in the shade Mahogany Studs. I can honestly say that L'Oreal do the best drugstore lipsticks in my opinion. Such great staying power and really good pigmentation.
So there's my first makeup look for autumn to kick off October! I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put something a little more heavy together. Any recommendations for autumn inspired makeup welcome!
