Layering for Autumn

Weather wise October always throws me as it's such an in between month. It's not quite cold enough for furry jackets, hats and scarfs but it's not warm enough to do away with coats entirely. That's why I find it's the perfect month to start layering up with a few key items, perhaps even some thinner coats you'd consider wearing during Spring and the beginning of Summer. I'm all about making the most out of the clothes in my wardrobe and layering is such a great way of doing this during these "in between season" months.

I've recently been looking at duster coats as my transitional jacket of choice before it gets really chilly. As I'm quite small I find it hard to get long line clothing that doesn't swamp me but this yellow one from River Island fits really well. They are one of a a few stores that do a good, snug fitting size 6 that isn't unrealistically tiny (ahem H&M) and good for those of us on the shorter side. I'm loving slogan tee's at the moment too and this slightly cropped one from Miss Selfridge is the perfect combo with my high waisted Topshop Jamie jeans. These boots (also from River Island) add a bit of a smart element to the outfit but you could just as easily dress this down with some trainers. I think I'd be tempted to go with my high top Converse to carry on the monochrome element. My scarf is an old one from ASOS (similar HERE). I had a huge thing for blanket style shawls last year and I'm determined to carry on the trend this season too; who doesn't love snuggling up in a huge rug when it's freezing cold!

So that's an example of how I use layering to utilise some of the lighter items in my wardrobe. It might be officially Autumn but that doesn't mean t-shirts and thin jackets are out of the question. Grab yourself some ankle boots, an oversized scarf and rock that layered look!
