I went on holiday to Scotland last weekend. I spent all of about an hour on the plane and when I arrived at the hotel, my skin was already looking crappy.
I had spots that had literally materialised in a matter of minutes, dry patches, and a strange grey hue to my skin. To combat what I call "post plane skin" I use a few different products and up the moisturising routine. It's become a bit of a standard thing for me whenever I go away so it's not as much of a chore anymore. While going through my routine I was thinking about all the standard things I do to keep my skin looking healthy and it got me thinking... What are the top things you can do to keep your skin healthy and youthful?

It doesn't matter how drunk you've got that night, or how tired you are, there's no excuse to not remove your makeup before you go to bed. Keeping your makeup on all night (and day) can leave your pores clogged and will lead to spots, discolouration and premature ageing of the skin.

A primer is something I find comes in handy if your skin is either really oily or really dry. When I've been travelling on a plane I tend to use one for the first few days of my holiday to combat my dry skin. Primers can help your makeup last longer while combatting dryness or oil. Dry skin has a tendency to age quicker so be sure to keep your skin hydrated all day with a primer.

Fine lines are going to creep up on all of us at some point. There's nothing we can do to stop ourselves ageing and I think it's incredibly important to age gracefully. Some people turn to Botox Treatments as a solution to any deep set wrinkles that they feel uncomfortable about. Deep set wrinkles tend to materialise around the eyes and mouth but remember, they occur because you've been smiling so much which isn't a bad thing!

Hydration doesn't just come from moisturisers. It's important to keep up a regular intake of water throughout the day. If you don't hydrate yourself from the inside, then it will show on the outside. If you don't feel you're drinking enough water then you probably aren't! Try replacing some of your other drinks such as tea, coffee and soda with a pint of water. You'll notice a huge improvement in your skin and your overall health in general.

Sleep is hugely important when it comes to the look of your skin. Personally, if I haven't had a good nights sleep it's really obvious in the appearance of my skin; especially the area around my eyes and the overall colour. If you find it hard to get to sleep try heading to bed a little earlier. That way your body has extra time to relax.
I hope these tips helped some of you who are struggling with your skin at the moment. I find the weather change can play a huge part in the way my skin looks too; damn you winter!
