What I got for my Birthday Part 1 - MAC's Satin Lipstick in "Rebel"

Hey!

It was my Birthday last week (28th November.. Just in case anyone had forgotten!) and I was given what I can only describe as the best presents EVER. To be honest I'd rather do a vlog about this kind of thing but until I sort myself out a decent camera, it'll all have to be on my blog for now. As soon as the vlogs are up, I'll let you know!

So over the next few weeks I'm going to be writing a blog or so a week on the amazing cosmetic's I acquired! I'm going to be including some "before" and "after" shots where applicable and I'll be rating the items too. I hope you find these posts helpful - you may even get some ideas of things to buy yourself with your Christmas money!

My first blog post is about some purple lipstick that my lovely friend Lia bought me. Now I'd been going on about buying some purple lipstick for a while but I was worried about whether or not it'd suit me - I've always bought very pink and fleshy coloured lipsticks in the past so purple would be quite a change....

The lipstick Lia bought me was one of MAC's Satin lipsticks called Rebel. After applying it for the first time this weekend I was really happy with the way it looked. I'd changed my hair colour slightly the week before (blonde all over as opposed to my standard highlights) and the drastic contrast between the vibrant blonde and the deep purple was really complimentary. The lipstick itself was a real joy to apply too - it has quite a matted texture so it didn't glide all over the place and my lips felt moisturised, unlike some other lipsticks which have left my lips feeling a little dry and tacky.

During the evening I'd completely forgotten I had the lipstick on. I only had to re apply it once and even then, I could have gotten away with not re applying. It fades into a really nice colour, doesn't "bleed", go patchy, or leave an annoying tide line around your lip line while it's wearing off. Oh and it smells absolutely gorgeous too!!

So the final verdict is.... A great lipstick and well worth a purchase! It would go well with pretty much any hair colour, and I believe it's a definite winter must have! To give you some guidelines on how to wear it, here's a few pictures of how I wore the lipstick on my Birthday night out:

Here I was wearing:

FACE - Garnier's Miracle Skin Perfector BB cream in "Light" with some Collection 200 cover up under my eyelids, on the ridge of my nose and on my chin.

CHEEKS - Bourjois Bonne Mine, Healthy Mix blusher. Applied to the "apples" of my cheeks.

BROWS - Rimmel's Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Black Brown. I just used this to fill in the gaps in my brows, I didn't draw anything too dark as I didn't want to detract from the lipstick.

EYES -  I used Maybelline's Color Tattoo 24 Hour in Eternal Gold as a base colour. For a little more shimmer I used Bourjois' Intense Extrait 01 shimmer eye shadow on top and then used Bourjois' Ombre a Paupieres 54 eye shadow on the inside crease to define my eyelid. For my lashes I used Benefit's Bad Gal mascara.

And finally LIPS: MAC's Satin Lipstick in Rebel. I put some of No7's Liplicous ultra shiny lip gloss on top of the lipstick. I can't find which one it is but it's a very light pink (almost see through) colour with a slight shimmer.

*Top Tips for Dark Lipsticks*

Let the lipstick be the main feature. Don't over complicate the rest of your make up or try to make your eyes too dark - although this can be a great look it's really hard to pull off.

Don't wear too much bronzer. Dark lipstick has a tendency to make you look quite pale but that's OK.. Roll with it! The pale look can look really beautiful and with some really good highlighter you can give yourself a dewy faced healthy look without the need for bronze.

Get a good lip liner. I know I said that this lipstick didn't bleed but it's always good to have a decent lip liner. For this shade I'd even recommend a slightly darker liner... I love the look of a dark line with a slightly lighter lipstick.
