Spring Makeup Essentials

When spring comes around I start to look at ways I can soften up my makeup. I do love a dark, smokey eye look and although I'll still wear something more sultry for evenings out, day to day I like to keep things a little lighter. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before but I am absolutely obsessed with the Lorac Pro eyeshadow palette. The colours are just so creamy and easy to apply and the pigmentation is amazing too. There's a mauve matte shade in there called "Mauve" (who'd have thought) which I love to use in conjunction with the dark brown matte shade called "Espresso".

I rarely switch up my foundation although when summer hits I'll probably have to use something more mattifying and I'll definitely consider using a primer. Until then I'm happy using my Revlon Colour Stay foundation in the shade 180. I ran out of the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light and because I was on a budget I turned to whatever I had in my foundation drawer at the time. I'd completely forgotten how much I loved this stuff; it's got great coverage without being too heavy. It works best being applied with a sponge either wet or dry.

Lipstick wise I'm still holding on to the dark reds. I'm not sure there's really any hard and fast rules around which lipstick you can wear during which season (I mean come on.. you can wear what you want, right?) but I do tend to feel a bit more festive and "dressed up" wearing red. I'm still loving these Art Sticks from Bobby Brown. The one I'm wearing in this picture is called "Harlow Red". These lipstick pencils have great staying power and they don't dry out. The colour selection is great too; I've got a few red shades a neutral one as well as a pinky shade and all of them wear well and are highly pigmented.

Bronzer is a bit of a "meh" product for me. You know those ones you apply just because you know you have to? I've never really fallen in love with a bronzer like I would a highlighter or a setting powder. That being said I do really enjoy using this one from Laura Mercier in the shade "Bronze 02". It's lovely and matte and very subtle meaning you avoid that dreaded orangey tint with added glitter.

I am a pink blusher kind of girl all the way and this NARS blusher in the shade "Deep Throat" is probably my favourite pinky shade. It has a bit of highlight mixed in which warms it up and adds a bit of a dewy finish. It's such a nice blusher to wear when you want something more fresh and illuminating.

The last thing I wanted to mention was highlighter. As we all know I'm a MAC's Soft and Gentle girl through and through but I recently bought one of the Laura Mercier highlighters in the shade "Indiscretion". What I love about this is the warm feeling it has. I've always gone for quite frosty highlighters in the past but this one has such a lovely golden undertone that will be perfect for summer.

What's your favourite spring makeup look?
